This experiment serves as an introduction to concepts relating to size
and distance, the solar system, and satellites. In this V-Lab, students will
design their own satellite to explore the universe from low earth orbit. This
satellite will provide scientists data and pictures about all of the planets.
Students will be challenged to decide what must be placed on this satellite for
a successful mission and the collection of all necessary data. Students will
also learn about the size of objects in our solar system and their comparison
to other objects in our galaxy. There are opportunities to explore the motions
of the planets, as well as comparing scale properties of objects in the solar
system.
