Have you wondered why your hair was a certain color, or your eyes? Our genes are responsible for the characteristics we hold. Genetics is the study of heredity and the variation of human inherited characteristics. The study of genetics is broad and filled with many concepts. This video illustrates Dominate and Recessive alleles and how they are passed from parent to offspring. An allele can be either heterozygous or homozygous. Heterozygotes demonstrate alleles of a specific gene that are different. For example, 'Aa'. Homozygotes demonstrate alleles of a specific gene that are the same. For example, 'AA' or 'aa'. In the case of heterozygotes, one allele is expressed, while the other is masked. The allele that is being expressed is defined as the Dominate allele, and the one being masked is the Recessive allele. This video will show the crossing of two heterozygous parents and the possible outcome of their offspring's eye color.
